The Swedish Code
- Reduction
of disease risk claims
The following nine connections between diet-related
diseases, or risk factors for these, and diet were allowed for
reduction of disease risk claims according to the Swedish Code. Conditions
of use for each connection were specified in 2004.
According to the EU-Regulation (no
1924/2006) on nutrition and health claims reduction of disease
risk claims requires an application (article 14).
1. Obesity - Energy
2. Cardiovascular disease/Atherosclerosis -
Blood cholesterol levels
a) Hard fat (the sum of saturated
and trans fatty acids)
b) Certain types of dietary fibre (oat
and barley beta-glucans)
3. Cardiovascular disease/Atherosclerosis -
Blood pressure - Salt
4. Cardiovascular disease/Atherosclerosis -
Omega-3 fatty acids from fish
5. Constipation - Dietary
fibre
6. Osteoporosis - Calcium
and/or Vitamin D
7. Caries- (Absence of)
Sugar/Fermentable carbohydrates
8. Iron deficiency - Iron
9. (Coronary) heart
disease - Wholegrain
